The spirit of giving
In a generous and philanthropic show of support for the Foundation and its initiatives to improve our world through the “Power of Paint Horses,” the Darogas, in-turn, donated the filly to the Foundation, with the expressed wish of helping the organization raise more funds for its worthy causes.
Current plans are to make Gay Bars Christi available at auction during the APHA Fall Championship Show Select Sale on November 8 in Fort Worth, with proceeds of the filly sale benefiting the Foundation.
“The organization has been tremendous,” Norrie Daroga said of the Foundation, which is driven to help youth through scholarships and support of the American Junior Paint Horse Association (AjPHA). His daughter, Elka, is a multiple APHA World Champion and Reserve World Champion.
“We’ve been blessed through our involvement, and we wanted to donate the filly back so even more money could be raised. It’s always been our philosophy that if you believe in a charity, and you win something, it’s appropriate to donate it back so you can support it more.”
Gay Bars Christi, who has quickly proven to be a talented young filly, was originally donated by Floyd and Maryann Moore, of the legendary 6-J Paint Horses in Huntsville, Texas, to support the Foundation’s youth leadership and scholarship programs. The Moores have donated fillies to the Foundation for the past five years and are thrilled that this year’s offering has been a great fundraising success that is continuing.
The future
Thanks to the generosity of Phil and Susan Drawdy of C.S. Acres in Fort Pierce, Florida, who are sponsoring the filly’s boarding and training, she will continue to progress under the talents of trainer Amy Andresen, from the Barn at Cedar Hill, in Cedar Hill, Texas.
